Extended Day Program

The Extended School Day Program is offered to school age students with Autistic Spectrum Disorders or developmental delays who require additional school hours to achieve their IEP goals.   The program provides students with continuity of instruction at HLVS, immediately following their school day; rather than receiving services at home. As such, HLVS staff members collaborate to ensure that the student’s IEP goals which are addressed during the school day continue to be addressed after school. All areas of development are addressed in small group and individualized settings in the following domains: cognitive, social/emotional, motor, language/ communication, and adaptive behaviors. Improving independent functioning and reducing challenging behaviors are integral components of the program.

The principles of Applied Behavior Analysis are utilized in The Extended School Day Program. The program is conducted for 1 hour and 30 minutes, 4 days per week (Monday-Thursday). Class ratios are small to maximize instructional time and match the child’s placement during the school day. Group Parent Training is provided programmatically one time per month, in accordance with IEP mandates. These sessions provide parents with strategies to effectively manage their child’s challenging behaviors and to assist their children in becoming more successful and independent in their home and community.  The program is closely supervised by an experienced Special Education Administrator.

This program may be funded through a school district as part of a student’s IEP or privately by parent(s)/guardian(s).

For additional information/questions regarding program implementation, class ratios, fees, and/or to set up an appointment to view the program, please call Eileen Townsend Williams, Coordinator, at 516-520-6026.
